My Background
My Professional Background.
My legal career started as an Articling Student on Bay St. in 1987 - Corporate; Real Estate; and Civil Litigation. I then worked at two Law Firms in the Waterloo Region handling Civil Litigation, Intellectual Property and Wills. In opened my own practice in1992; and in 1999, I completed a Master's Degree in ADR (Mediation).
I remain a Licensed Lawyer and Member in Good Standing of the Law Society of Ontario, but I now only provide legal advice to other Firms in an "Of Counsel" position. I no longer dispense legal advice to private clients and my entire professional practice is now dedicated to Mediation & Consulting.
I was a part-time Law and Mediation Instructor at College 1992 - 2002 and later taught 4th Year Honours Legal Studies part-time at University 2006 - 2019.
I designed the Mediation Course for Conestoga College and implemented the first voluntary Small Claims Court Mediation program for the Waterloo Region Provincial Court in 2000.
I have also owned businesses in each of the manufacturing, retail and service industries; and
I've been a Board Member, and the Board President, of two Non-Profit organizations.
My Practice Approach.
I have 4 primary areas of professional practice:
- I act as a Mediator to help parties to find sustainable solutions to their disputes.
- I provide confidential business consulting to clients who are looking for solutions to business challenges. My assistance does not take the form of legal advice, but all information and conversations are held in the same strict confidence that my profession as a Lawyer requires. My services are limited to guiding transformative business solutions; no legal advice is provided.
- I accept public speaking engagements as a Motivational Speaker & Problem Solver; no legal advice is provided.
- I now provide legal advice only in officially designated "Of Counsel" positions with other Law Firms.
